News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept. 5, 2024

Somerset Bible Chapel

Summer schedule Sundays ended Sept. 1 on the Labour Day long weekend. The Sunday School hour resumes next week at 9:30 a.m. with an open session Super Sunday and with classes the following week. The regular worship service continues at 10:30 a.m.

Erik Picard led the announcements. Katie and Emery DeRoo led the worship time with “Open The Eyes of My Heart”, “Blessed Assurance”, “Everlasting God”, “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)”, “Abide with Me”, and “Yet Not I, But Through Christ in Me”.

Other participants included Byron Timmerman as the usher, Rick Ross for Scripture reading and leading Communion, Kevin Friesen and Clayton Kimber for serving, Clayton also led the prayer focus. Jamie Small was the speaker.

In 1 John 1:1-4,  John gives credibility to the letter he is writing to the believers. He has seen, heard, touched and accompanied the man Jesus during his earthly ministry. John makes connections back to the Gospel with his name. The phrase, “Word of Life”, is often repeated in both New Testament books.

Another term Jamie S. noted in his sermon was “Fellowship”. The word has a variety of meanings when translated from the Greek “koinonia’: a friendly association of people with a common interest, a community, a brotherhood, a partnership in possessing eternal life.

For John as writer, and for those who follow on as part of the family of God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, the desire is that all mankind would believe so that their joy might become full.

The sermon closed with prayer. The Communion celebration followed. After the closing hymn, the benediction was from John 15:9-11.

The new bulletin for September was in church mailboxes and sent by email to the congregation. The missionaries of the month are Herbert and Shandi Ives at Dauphin Bible Camp where he is site manager. During the summer camps, Shandi helped out in the kitchen, and as a health officer.
