News from Isabel Acheson for issue of April 2, 2026
Somerset Bible Chapel
This year March is a five Sunday month, and March 29 was Palm Sunday. The music selections moved from “Hallelujah (Your Love Has Made Me Sing)” through favourite hymns of faith and praise. “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”, “Holy, Holy, Holy” and “In Christ Alone” to a song teaching the events of Easter Weekend “Lead Me to Calvary” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
The worship service opened with Matt Penner reading the announcements. Byron Timmerman served as usher. Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus. Michelle Friesen read the Bible Lesson 1 Corinthians 15:1-8.
Pastor Jeff Peacock and Michayla were the music team. (Michayla is near the end of the winter semester at Briarcrest Bible College.) Readings from Psalm 23, Revelation 4 and Hebrews 12 were interspersed with the songs.
Rachel Picard had an informative report on the history of the Pilot Mound YFC youth Ministry known as The Rock. From discussions in 2005, through beginnings of youth
activities in 2006, to the construction of a building in 2010, the care of teens in the area has been active. The current fundraiser is directed at replacing the carpet that has endured 15 years of traffic!
“The Preposterous Gospel” was the title of the Palm Sunday sermon from Pastor Jeff. 1 Cor. 15:1-2. A long list of anomolies in the God - man relationship ended with the question “What if God’s logic is not the sameas ours?”.
The apostle Paul reminds the church that his preaching there in times past needs to be remembered. He speaks to them as being a family, brothers: adopted as sons by God, children of God, brothers and sisters in faith, jointly inheriting eternal life.
The just punishment for mankind’s sin is death. Yet God allows people to live, to make the choice to believe or reject knowledge of God and his plan of salvation. To become part of a family rather than being an alien and a stranger. To experience eternal life, resurrection (Jesus is the first friuts of the resurrection) and being glorified in heaven.
Pastor Jeff included the reminder that salvation is both past tense (redeemed, justified) and present tense (an ongoing process of growth and santification) as well as hope for the future.
