News from Isabel Acheson for issue of July 30, 2026
Somerset Bible Chapel
The announcements for Sunday July, as read by Jamie Grenier, began with a strong statement of Thanks to Rebekah Peacock and Rachel Picard for their work in organizing 2026 Day Camp July 20-24. Thanks also to the amazing volunteers who helped out in the various elements of the program and to the grandmas, dads and others who helped with child care, etc. to enable the volunteers to be there.
Emery and Katie DeRoo were the worship team. James Friesen was usher. Kevin Friesen led Prayer Focus, Lorna Unrau read the Bible lesson from 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.
The musical selections included “God is For Us” (Ps. 46:1-3,7), “My God is All I Need”, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “Your Will Be Done”, “The Love of God” (Jeremiah 31:3) and “Jesus Paid It All” (I Cor. 6:19-20).
The summer theme “I’m Glad You Asked” from Pastor Jeff Peacock again used a teaching format. The questions and suggestions he had received regarding “Salvation:Process and Results” led to an indepth study. Congregational participation was enabled by the use of a hand held mic.
Three aspects of the Process of Salvation were offered: Effectual Calling (Illumination), Regeneration and Conversion. There is a general call to all mankind to be saved from the penalty and power of sin. However, not everyone responds with saving faith.
Regeneration is a theological term meaning that the Holy Spirit gives a newness of life - born again, a heart of stone becomes a heart of flesh, washing clean from sin, a new creation.
The term “Conversion” refers to a change of direction and purpose, as the elect soul responds to the glory of the gospel.
The Results part of the study covered 1) A new position, 2) Justification and 3) Adoption. All three are works of God. All three use legal terms. The Mosaic Law is fulfilled in certain aspects and replaced by a New Covenant by the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Many Scripture references were read out throughout the study.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) for ages 3-8 has been set for August 10-12, Mon - Wed, 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the church.
