The Worship Service Sunday August 30 began with Jamie Grenier reading announcements. Kevin and Michelle Friesen were the music leaders. James Friesen was usher. Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus and Rick Ross read the Bible lesson from Romans 8:31-39 (God’s Everlasting Love).   

The hymns were “Blessed Be The Name”, “Our God”, “His Mercy is More”, “Only a Holy God”, “Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me”, “Living Hope” and “Faithful One”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock chose for his sermon material the Book of Romans, especially the section in Chapter 8 which becomes an outburst of praise from the author the Apostle Paul, an early Christian missionary to the people scattered beyond the homeland of the Jews. Many verses in this chapter are likely to be well known by Bible students. 

From the previous chapters, Paul is tying together the relationship between the Law taught in the Old Testament and the Grace shown by God in the New Testament. The progression of the unregenerate soul begins with the natural sin nature, falling short of pleasing God, doomed to die by the wages of sin. The law imputes guilt. 

Faith in God’s plan of salvation, that eternal life and peace with God is offered by the gift of love whereby the Son of God died for the ungodly. Salvation transforms the life of the believer (chapter 6) and removes condemnation (Ch. 8:1). A person has a new nature, becoming a child of God by adoption, an heir and subject to God’s workmanship. 

“What can I say” becomes the lead-in to Paul’s outburst of praise that nothing shall separate one from the Love of God and the presence of God. 

Paul writes to the believers in Rome before he has visited in person, and, before they endure great persecution from emperor Nero. He reminds them of God’s faithfulness to care for them in hard times. That God provides sufficient for our needs. That God provides freedom from the law of sin and death. 

The conclusion emphasizes the security, beyond human ability, to be found in the love of God. 

The summer schedule continues through the Labour Day weekend. Sunday School classes begin 9:30 a.m. Sept. 13th. Youth Group will also begin in Sept.
