News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept 10, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

The first Sunday of September usually comes in the Labour Day long weekend with families missing, and often with visitors. September 6 worship service began with announcements read by Rejean Picard. Emery and Kate DeRoo were the music leaders. Matt Penner was usher. Elders Kevin Friesen and Clayton Kimber were Communion servers. Lorna Unrau read Psalm 139:13-14.

The hymns were “Come thou Fount”, “Blessed Assurance”, “My God Is All I Need”, “You Are My God Alone” and “All The Way My Saviour Leads”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Communion observance, the Prayer Focus and the sermon time. The new Mission of the Month is Sunday School.

“A Dark Study” summed up the material Pastor Jeff presented. With words carefully chosen and with children of all ages present in the congregation, he began with statistics on abortion with 150,000 lives reported lost each year in Canada. No criminal code restriction.

The Bible teaches, and Christ followers believe, that life begins at conception and ends with natural death. Many aspects were shown. Exodus 20:13 “You shall not murder”, Genesis 1:26-27 Mankind is made in the image of God, responsible to care for all of creation. Gen. 9:5-6 God requires a reckoning for the life of every person. Leviticus 18:21 Putting a child to death is a uniquely detestable sin and profanes the name of God. Lev. 20:1-5 Punishment for child sacrifice extends to the family, clan and nation that ignores the practice.

Other Bible passages address related matters: Jeremiah 7: 30-34 speaks of a Valley of Slaughter and the nation becomes a wasteland. Ex. 21:21:22-23 deals with injury during pregnancy producing abortion - the child is regarded as a person. Luke 1:44-49 - an unborn child leaps in the womb with joy. The same Greek word is used to indicate a person in utero, as an infant, a baby and a young child in New Testament references.

We are called to protect human life. We should do our best to preserve life even if there is near zero chance of survival. What we do while a child is still alive matters. We are to pursue wisdom, care and compassion so that children are cared for and safe. By this we show the Gospel to children in our midst. If we turn a blind eye we will likewise suffer.

Sunday School classes begin 9:30 a.m. Sept. 13th. Youth Group will begin Sept. 23.
