Somerset Bible Chapel 

The Worship Service Sunday August 23 began with Erik Picard reading announcements. Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna were the music leaders. Matt Penner was usher. Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus and Clayton Kimber read the Bible lesson from Romans 12:1-5.   

The hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, “It is Well with My Soul”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”.

The summer sermon series “I’m Glad You Asked” is nearing its conclusion. This Sunday’s question “How can we have real communion in the church?” highlighted various factors that make a church community prove itself to be “The Body of Christ”. 

Pastor Jeff offered the perhaps scary thought that the sermon had 21 points! However, they turned out to be the many elements given in Rom 12 described in verses 2-21 of the process of being sanctified, of being transformed to someone being more like Christ. 

Each one has a function in the fellowship, a gift or gifts to be used for the benefit of others and for the Glory of God. Each one has a call to be loving, generous, cheerful, patient, peaceable, holding fast to what is good.

The follow-up question “What keeps us from living this out in the Church?” led to factors such as 1) Attendance, being  present for the group; 2) Facade, putting on a mask to hide real needs: 3) Artificial worship, that which has no real theological depth; and 4) Ignoring the presence of God. 

Each topic brought out discussion points. There is a time and a place for sharing struggles and needs. The devil’s tool is the mindset that I am the only one with this difficulty. In fact probably someone else has experience with a similar difficulty. 

James 5:16 teaches the value of the prayers of the righteous. Struggles shared give opportunity to pray. Part of helping others grow, especially young people, is to help them recognize the struggles of adult life. God can give wisdom, grace, and growth. God receives many kinds of service as worship: Music, prayer, giving, learning, serving others. 

Joshua 1:2-9 “Be strong and courageous” gives Joshua the promise of God’s presence always. The service closed with prayer.

Church prayer family of the week: Ernest and Lorna Unrau, Morden. Each of their five children were mentioned in the prayer concerns. Ernie is entering a busy season as a piano technician, and has health tests coming up. Lorna does office work/medical records at BTHC, and asks for patience and energy. 

Mission of the month: Compassion Canada sponsor Child Markenlove Mark, age 17 in Haiti.

Praise the Lord for Quinten Grenier getting needed surgery and to have a good recovery.
