He Is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! A traditional call and response for Easter Sunday.
Sunday April 5 opened with this triumphant declaration. The music of the day continued with the celebration theme: “This Is Amazing Grace”, “He Lives!”, and “Because He Lives”.
The worship service had begun with Erik Picard reading the announcements. Byron Timmerman served as usher. Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus. Rachel Picard read the Bible Lesson 1 Corinthians 15:12-22.
The music team was Kevin and Michelle Friesen with Ben Larson at the video desk. The second set of singing included “You Are My King”, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”, “Build My Life”.
Pastor Jeff Peacock opened his message with thanks to the many families who were present for the Good Friday breakfast and worship time. The elders and their wives prepared the pancake, sausage and ham meal. An offering basket was in place for donations.
Kevin F. with guitar led the singing of “Living Hope”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Messiah” which most could sing from memory (or look up on their phones). Pastor Jeff led a devotional conversation on Jesus’ final statement from the cross - a single word meaning “It is Finished”. Many comments were given about what was finished. A reading from the epistle to the Hebrews 10:11-23 gave an overview of the significance.
The Sunday sermon continued the study of 1 Cor. 15 from the week before. The chapter is considered the most extensive treatment of the resurrection in the Bible. Paul states that the first importance in his teaching is that they know the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is according to the scriptures (Old Testament of the Bible).
We contribute to our salvation only the sin that made it necessary. The death of Jesus to satisfy the penalty of sin, as the perfect sacrifice, makes redemption possible to those who believe and accept.
His burial took place before the Sabbath began and his resurrection took place the day after the Sabbath to fulfill prophecy. His resurrection was verified by many witnesses. Pastor Jeff listed many references to Jesus’ resurrection appearances to different people in different places in the 40 days before Ascension.
The Communion service closed the sermon and the worship hour.
