News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept. 4, 2025
Somerset Bible Chapel
The typical long weekend pattern for August 31st worship service held true: some families away, some folks visiting the area. Matt Penner read the announcements, Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna led the worship with Jamie Small at piano. Rejean Picard served as usher, Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus, and Isabel A. read the Bible lesson from Ruth 2:14-23.
“Come Thou Fount”, “Lord, I Need You”, a Chris Tomlin song “My Savour Loves”, “How Deep the Father’s Love For Us”, “Nails in Your Hands”, and “You Are My King” were the songs.
The Mission of the Month for August has been Millar College of the Bible, Winnipeg Campus. Evan Unrau was a first year student there last season and had a summer job on the Pambrun, SK campus. Evan noted that the staff of all venues desire prayers for their coming sessions as new staff learn their duties and everyone makes appropriate adjustments.
Pastor Jeff continued his series in chapter 2 of Ruth, “It Just So Happened”. The narrative picks up with Boaz and Ruth having a meal together with all of the harvesters. Boaz instructs his servants to be kind to Ruth, provides for her safety, enables her to take home enough from a hard days work to support Naomi and Ruth for many days.
Naomi is amazed at Ruth’s bounty. As she learns the story of the day, she recognizes Boaz’s name as a family relative, one who is eligible to serve as a kinsman redeemer. This function in Hebrew culture could provide relief for someone had been sold into slavery, for land that had been sold due to economic hardship, or for care of a widow.
All along the way God was providing sustenance for the widows, a portion of the big picture (meta-narrative) of His Plan for mankind, and Promises fulfilled. Ruth appears in the genealogy of Jesus.
In the New Testament, Ephesians 2:11-13, the concept of being “far off and brought near” is applied to Gentiles as well as Jews, all people brought together by belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, Redeemer from the penalty and power of sin.
The closing song was “There Is A Redeemer” led by Kevin F.
