News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept 24, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

The Worship Service for September 20 was opened with Matt Penner giving announcements. Emery and Katie DeRoo were the music leaders. Jonathan Timmerman was usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus and Isabel A. read the Scripture lesson from Isaiah 46:8-10.

Katie opened with reading Philippians 2:5-11. “In Christ Alone”, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “His Mercy is More”, a reading 1 Samuel 1:1-2, “Only a Holy God”, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and the closing song “Jesus Paid it All” made up the song sets.

Guest speaker for the day was Rick Ross. His theme was “The Sovreign Character of God”. In contrast to the anxiety that can frequently overtake us, Confidence in being a child of God can lead to a fruitful life.

A number of Bible references were used to outline the ways people experience the Sovreignty of God. God’s love is faithful. He acts in lives for our good and for His Glory. God provides purpose, planning, reward, and continuity throughout life.

The blessings of putting our confidence in God are many. The conplete power and authority of God surpass that of Satan and demons. Jesus and his disciples drove out many demons (Luke 8:26-39 gives one detailed account). The book of Job points out that Satan’s power in torment is limited by God. Satan was allowed to make sure that Jesus died on the cross, allowing full atonement to be made for the sin of mankind.

Romans 9:14-17 speaks of the mercy and compassion of God, that his name will be proclaimed in all the earth, that the rulers of this world are in place by his holy will.

Rick gave a list of Attributes of God’s nature: Infinite, Uncreated (self-existant), Immutable, Self-sufficient, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omni present, Holy, Loving, Merciful, Just, Good and Faithful. Such qualities give certainties in an uncertain world.

Anxiety gives way to peace. Confusion is replaced by direction and purpose. Fear is overcome by courage. Doubt fades as one steps out in faith, knowing that God is for us, with us and in us. James 1:2-3 gives the progression of the testing of faith.

The benediction was Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1: 15-21.
