News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept. 14, 2023

Somerset Bible Chapel

Sunday morning September 10 marked the end of the summer schedule. Sunday School classes for all ages 3.5 years and up will resume on Sunday the 17th at 9:30 a.m.

The worship service opened with Christian Education Chair Abe Klassen doing the announcements. Rejean and Carol Picard served as worship team leading off with “Be Still and Know”, “Come Now Is The Time”, Prayer and “His Mercy is More”.

Byron Timmerman served as usher and the offertory was “It is Well With My Soul”. Erik Picard led the Prayer Focus. The mission of the month is Sunday School Teachers.

“Standing on the Promises” and “Yet not I, but Through Christ in Me” concluded the opening worship.

Pastor Jeff Peacock prefaced the sermon with personal updates surrounding his recent vacation time. The text for the day was Psalm 51. The setting was from King David’s records in 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12.

Ending the summer series of “Coffee Cup verses” was Psalm 51:10 “Create a clean heart in me and renew a right spirit within me.”

King David, once confronted with the seriousness of his sin, approaches God with humility and repentance calling on God’s mercy and lovingkindness. David accepts the reality of his sin, recognizes that all sin is primarily committed against God.

The closing third of the Psalm reveals David’s worship response. Pastor Jeff concluded with reading Psalm 32:1-11 (with comments) which is a companion Psalm to Ps. 51.

The closing hymn was “Refiner’s Fire”.
