News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Oct. 9, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

With Pastor Jeff Peacock still on holidays, the communion service for the first Sunday of the month was postponed until October 12. The music team of Jamie and Brianna Small along with Kevin Friesen led the worship service. For Sunday October 5, Brianna read the announcements, Abe Klassen was usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus, and Lorna Unrau read the Bible lesson from Psalm 77:1-12 (In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord).

The songs were “Count Your Blessings”, “Prince of Peace” (an echo song), “The Last Word”, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone version)”, “Yes, I Will”, “It is Well with My Soul” and, for the closing, “Faithful Now”.

Tim Hildebrandt, in ministry with YFC The Rock in Pilot Mound, was the speaker. His presentation began with a short video voiced by leadership, volunteers and students during a Thursday Drop-In Night last winter. He listed off a number of ways the team share the love of Jesus with teen-agers, seeking to include the most vulnerable and marginalized.

Activities are chosen to develop connections and trust. A regular newsletter is available for those who wish to pray for and support the ministry.

The sermon was focused on “Thankfulness”. First Thessalonians 5:18 contains the phrase “give thanks in all circumstances”. Tim compared his own perspective when a Grade 6 student with the world that today’s teens are dealing with.

Thankfulness is not always easy: it is a decision to make. The Bible contains many stories about people who felt abandoned, powerless and weary. However, like the Psalmist, one can choose to remember the better times when they could see God at work.

Tim likened the hard times to the desert wanderings of the Israelites after their exodus from slavery in Egypt. How often they complained to Moses, their leader! However, it is better to look back on sufferings, pains and sickness to see that God has used it in our lives.

For someone in a desert situation at present, he advised depending on God for Strength, Wisdom and Endurance. Share with family or close friends. Help your children to be thankful. Watch how God is preparing you for the future.
