News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Oct. 23, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Thanksgiving was still the theme for Sunday October 19 with the annual church Thanksgiving Supper in the evening. The lower hall was comfortably full. After the main course, Pastor Jeff gave a brief devotional talk on thankfulness and gave time for those present to state their own aspects of thanksgiving. Dessert followed.

The Sunday morning worship service opened with welcome announcements given by Erik Picard. The usher was Jonathan Timmerman. Rachel Picard read the Bible Lesson from Ruth 4:1-22. The Worship Team was Brianna and Jamie Small with Kevin Friesen.

Pastor Jeff Peacock made a couple special presentations before leading the Prayer Focus. Jamie and Carleigh Grenier were recognized for their 25th wedding anniversary coming up on October 21. Pastor Jeff led a prayer of blessing and challenge.

Until June, Brianna Small had been a part-time paid Youth Coordinator for the church. Pastor Jeff, having come from a background of multi person ministry teams, commented on the pleasure of having a team member for her term. The benefit has been evident in the health of the youth ministries. Pastor Jeff in his prayer of blessing noted her new stage of life in being a mother.

The songs and hymns included “The Solid Rock”, “Only Jesus Can”, “Before the Throne of God Above”, “Build My Life” and “Your Will be Done”.

Pastor Jeff issued a challenge in May for people to engage in meaningful spiritual conversations, and to mark the act with moving a jingle bell from one rose bowl to another. The final count was 103, a great encouragement to everyone.

Ruth chapter 4 tells of Boaz taking his opportunity and responsibilities as a Kinsman aRedeemer to carry on the name of Ruth’s deceased husband. Boaz had a great respect for Ruth as a woman of noble character. His own integrity was evident in his attention to detail in following the laws of Deuteronomy 25:5-10. Boaz makes the formal declaration of his intention to marry Ruth and keep the land in the family name.

The townspeople rejoiced at the news, (v. 11-12) and spoke of the early characters of the children of Israel in claiming blessings for the couple. Their child would become the grandfather of King David.

The sermon ended with a prayer, the closing hymn was “His Mercy is More”.
