News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Nov. 13, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Sunday Nov. 9 included the fall congregational meeting as well as the Sunday School hour at 9:30 a.m., the worship service at 10:30 a.m. and Bring Your Own Lunch noon hour.

Activities for the season are intensifying as the announcements read by Matt Penner indicated. Pastor Jeff and Alanna Peacock were worship leaders with Jamie Small assisting at piano. Rejean Picard was the usher and led the Prayer Focus, Rachel Picard was the Scripture reader (2 Corinthians 6:1-10).

Hymns for the day included “Shout to the Lord”, “Jesus Messiah”, “God of Wonders”, “Amazing Grace (My chains are gone)”, “My Jesus, I Love Thee” and, for the closing “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”.

“Commendable Servants” was the theme of Pastor Jeff’s sermon from 2 Cor. 6:6. He reviewed the context from the earlier verses. Paul writes to the church in Corinth (and to future servants of God) about endurance with patience (long-suffering) in difficult times.

On the positive side, Paul lists elements of righteousness for the servant of God.

Purity requires one to flee temptation, to be blameless and clean. Knowledge gives guidance and direction to zeal. An illustration from the activity of bow hunting fit well.

Patience goes hand in hand with love and care in exercising forgiveness. Kindness includes both goodness and gentleness. Genuine Love is a self-sacrificing love, focused on the well-being of the other. The Holy Spirit present and active in the servant of God enables all the other positive elements.

The business meeting received reports covering events since the summer meeting in early August. A nomination committee was selected to prepare for the annual meeting to take place in January.

The Sunday School hour on Nov. 16 will involve all classes participating in a Packing Party for Operation Christmas Child. Preprinted boxes or ordinary shoebox size containers are filled with items collected month by month. These go to collection centres that are sponsored by the aid agency Samaritans Purse and are distributed to many countries worldwide.

Time now to mark the calendar for the annual Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 14
