May 17, the Sunday of 2026 May Long Weekend, seemed to find a few families studying and worshipping elsewhere! The teen class joined the adult class for Sunday School. The younger classes were closer to usual attendance in each.
Rick Ross filled in to read the opening announcements. Jonathan Timmerman was usher. Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. Rachel Picard was the Scripture reader: Ephesians 2:19 - By Grace Through Faith. The music team was Kevin and Michelle Friesen.
The music selections included “This Is the Day”, “Rescuer”, “My Hope Is Built”, “What He’s Done”, “How Great Thou Art”, “How Great Is Our God”, “Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone” and in closing “Not yet I But Through Christ in Me” with a first line of “What gift of Grace is Jesus my Redeemer”.
Pastor Jeff chose the topic of “Grace” for his sermon which was related to the previous message from 2 Corinthians 12:9 “but he (God) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
The word study looked at questions such as “Do we understand Grace?”, and “Do we understand that Grace is often conditional?”.
Eph. 2 points out that God is rich in mercy, by grace a person is saved from the wages of sin. Without God’s intervention a person has no merit to earn their own favour with God.
In Exodus 14, the account of Moses leading the Hebrews away from their slavery in Egypt, the multitude found themselves between the Red Sea and the pursuing troops. The Hebrews are called to stand firm and watch the deliverence provided by God. Moses obeys God’s command and deliverance occurs.
The defeat of Jericho in Joshua 6 required a different type of obedience, but God again showed his power in times of difficulties. Pastor Jeff noted that the grace of salvation is not conditional on us.
Romans 8:27-38 offers assurance that God is working for good. The author Paul expresses confidence in God. Grace gives us eternal perspective (Rev. 21:2-8).
The “March for Life Walk” scheduled for Thursday May 14th was postponed due to the high winds. It is rescheduled to Saturday 27th. Kevin Larson has additional details.
