News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 11, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

Pastor Jeff Peacock opened the worship hour Sunday June 7 with the announcements for upcoming events. Emery DeRoo, Treasurer, and Erik Picard, Trustee, had updates for the congregation from the Thursday evening Council meeting.

James Friesen served as usher. Pastor Jeff led the Communion ceremony and the Prayer Focus. Rick Ross and Clayton Kimber were servers. Rick read the Bible lesson from 1 Peter 1:3-12. Emery and Katie DeRoo were the music team.

Beginning with “Come, Now is the Time to Worship” and  “Our God is For Us”; the music selections were followed later by “My God Is All I Need”, “Because He Lives” and “Lord I Need You” with the closing song being “Jesus Strong and Kind”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock continued the series from 1 Peter with “Rejoicing in Suffering”, a message from Peter’s letter to the Christians affected by the severe persecution they were receiving at the hands of the Roman Emperor of the time (Nero).

V.6 uses the phrase “for a little while”, indicating that one day the suffering will pass. In the midst of a difficulty, suffering seems to be all-encompassing. Yet Peter teaches that suffering has a purpose to test the true genuineness of one’s faith. Suffering also produces growth. (A frequent analogy is athletes in training.)

The Christians are urged to rejoice in the “Living Hope” from the previous week’s sermon, to live with endurance so that in the end praise, glory and honour may result in the revelation of Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour.

Listeners were asked to consider the question “What will heaven be like?”. A place? Yes. But more than that, a Person! To be present with Jesus, free from sin, sorrow, pain, tears, heartache, sin and rebellion. To be spared the destruction awaiting those who ignore or refuse God’s offer of forgiveness and redemption.

Christians are assured of being adopted into the family of God, of experiencing God’s contined presence at all times, so that as one believes and practices the will of God revealed in Scripture, there will be growth, security, service and worship.

The service closed with a benediction from Psalm 20: 6-7.
