News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 4, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

Sunday May 31 Rejean Picard opened the worship hour with the announcements for upcoming events. Youth group, church council, YFC (The Rock) P. Mound Golf Tourney, Father’s Day church events, Ladies 4X4 groups (4 ladies, 4 meetings, 4 months) and a general ladies meeting in June with new groups set up in July.

Abe Klassen served as usher. Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus. Clayton Kimber read the Bible lesson 1 Peter 1:1-9.

Rachel Picard introduced Maddie Friesen, Director of the Manitou Drop In Centre for Youth. She gave an overview of the ministries: Drop in activities at the Manitou Opera House, weekly volunteer work in the high school, monthly Guys and Girls Nights, weekly activity times for Junior teens (Gr 5-8) and for Senior Teens (Gr 9-12).

Michelle and Kevin Friesen were the music team. Their selections began with a medley “Sacrifice of Praise”, Prayer, “My Hear Starts Beating”, “Cornerstone”, “Faithful Now” and “Living Hope”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock began a series on the book of First Peter. This 5 chapter epistle was written at a time when the Christians in Rome were being driven out of the area by Emperor Nero to distract from his destructive fire that destroyed many significant structures. The letter lists the wide circulation intended for it.

The letter opens with a greeting, then a Song of Praise to God to encourage a suffering church. Peter speaks of Great Mercy, Living Hope, Inheiritance and being guarded by God’s Power.

Despite their afflictions, the Christians receive a reminder that God is still on the throne, that God has done all that is needed for salvation (from the penalty of sin). God has caused those who believe in the resurrection of Jesus as the Way to Eternal Life to be born again spiritually.

The Inheritance offered the child of God (speaking to those who are dissappointed, in dispair and difficulty) is imperishable, undefiled, unfading, and kept in Heaven. The order then is to “Go to God, tell Him how you are. He desires that we come to Him. Rest in Him.”

The closing song was 1 Peter 5:7 set to music “I will Cast all my Cares upon You”.
