News from Isabel Acheson for issue of May 15, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel 

The morning of Mother’s Day 2025 was bright and sunny. Following Sunday School and the worship service, the  fathers of the congregation, assisted by the youth and children prepared and served a Burger BBQ/Bar for build your own burger or hot dog, with salads and desserts. 

The adult Sunday School class is currently in the book of Daniel. Daniel has 12 chapters with 1-6 being narrative and 7-12 being Prophetic. 

The worship service opened with Rejean Picard leading the announcements. Thanks were extended to those who helped with the spring church cleaning and repairs done the day before, with special mention of the youth and children who helped out. 

Rachel P. had a reminder about the YFC Golf tournament for Jun 8th and Brianna S. had a new deadline for signup for a youth event in Crystal City on May 21st. 

Rejean and Carol Picard led the music with the selections “I Lift Your Name”, “All Heaven Declares”, “My Jesus, I Love Thee”, “More Precious Than Silver” and, for offertory, “Count Your Blessings”. A medley of “Grace Greater than All Our Sins”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” was followed by “Once Again” and “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”. 

Byron Timmerman was usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus, Michelle Friesen read the Scripture lesson Psalm 22:1-19. With Pastor Jeff Peacock away for the AGC National Convention in Ottawa May 8-11, the guest speaker for the day was Abe Klassen from the congregation. 

Abe chose “Jesus Died” as his theme. The Gospel Accounts in Matthew 27:1-66, Mark 15:1-47 and Luke 23:1-56 were read by various members of the congregation (cordless mic assisted). For sake of time the account in John 18 and 19 was skipped. 

Abe added other Scripture verses that related to 3 aspects: Jesus laid down His life, No one took His life from him, Jesus’ death was public, making sure the nation knew that he was dead. 

The crucifixion took place at the time of Passover, so all the adult males connected with Judaism would be in Jerusalem for the celebration (potential witnesses). His death involved the Roman authority in Israel and was recorded in their historical records as well.  The sermon ended in prayer. 

The closing song was “The River” and Rejean closed in prayer.
