Spring Ahead. Time change Sunday seemed to be on track for most families for 9:30 Sunday School and 10:30 a.m. Worship Service.
Rejean Picard gave the announcements. The song leader was Pastor Jeff Peacock with Alanna assisting, and Jamie Small at the piano. Erik Picard served as usher. Michelle Friesen did the Scripture Lesson (Romans 12:9-13) and Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus.
The songs chosen for the day “Be Thou My Vision”, “Blessed Be Your Name”, “How Great Thou Art”, “It is Well With My Soul” and “There Is a Redeemer” followed a theme of comfort and reassurance along with Praise of the Greatness of Almighty God.
The context for the sermon was the verse 3-8 portion of Romans 12 dealing with interactions within the church. “Giving” was the general topic drawn from the lesson read by Michelle. The list of the “Marks of a True Christian” concludes with an admonition to “contribute to the needs of the saints”.
Then I Corinthians 16:1-2 describes a collection from Corinth and Galatia for the saints in need in Jerusalem. Paul directs the church to put aside regularly, as they are able, something for this mission. No specific portion is prescribed in the New Testament.
Several references in Exodus indicate offerings from “every man whose heart moves him” and also an instance where the people were asked to stop giving because the need of the time had been met!
Proverbs 3:9-10 calls for the wise to honour the Lord with their wealth, and specifically indicates the First Fruits of one’s produce. The giving is understood as being more than financial, but also one’s time, talents, compassion, and other resources.
Humility is key in giving. Matthew 6:1-4 addresses this factor. 1Timothy 5:17-18 covers the question “Is it Biblical to pay your pastor?”.
Final conclusions of the message included: Recognize that giving or not giving reveals your heart; Giving must be done in love: and, Godly giving produces gratitude.
The sermon closed with prayer and was followed by singing The Doxology.
Good Friday April 18, will be the annual breakfast at the church, details to come later. Youth Group evenings are set for March 26th, April 9th and 23rd.
