News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 6, 2024

Somerset Bible Chapel

The Super Sunday program on June 2 featured a video from an Expedition Bible series. “Exploring Babylon and the Prophecies Against Her” by Joel Kramer, a biblical archaeologist, outlined the ancient city walls and showed the destruction and desolation evident in the modern day. Abe Klassen led a brief discussion following the video.

The birthday people of April, May and June were recognized. A snack and time for visiting followed.

Michelle Friesen gave the announcements for the morning worship on Sunday, May 26. Emery and Katie DeRoo led the music team. “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “Everlasting God”, “Your Will Be Done”, “In Christ Alone”, “His Mercy is More” and “Lord, I Need You” were the chosen songs.

Jon Timmerman was usher. Rick Ross and Clayton Kimber served Communion. Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus and the communion celebration. The Mission of the Month is Turtle Mountain Bible Camp (TMBC).

Michelle F. read the Bible Lesson from Galatians 5:1-15. Pastor Jeff addressed the theme “Christ has Set us Free”. The Galatians are urged to stand firm for the truth they have received. They are directed to refuse the yoke of slavery to the old law.

The sermon had been prefaced with a commentary on the current society's emphasis on glorifying certain deviant behaviours. The pressures of the evil one deceive and infiltrate in so many ways. The church is responsible for holding up God’s firm teaching on Marriage and Family.

Some define freedom as the absence of restrictions in which everyone sees themselves as in charge. However, Freedom is better defined as the presence of the right restrictions that keep people safe. In Christ, there is freedom to love, care, give, and support one another.

There is a sure and certain hope through the Holy Spirit and by Faith. There is forgiveness from sin and its penalty. There is transformation as the believer learns of Christ and His teachings. The church is called to a spiritual battle for truth and right; speaking the truth in love and respect. The Christian is called to new desires, with Jesus demonstrating God’s Love. Sacrifice.
