News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb 5, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

About 19 youth and 7 leaders visited Valley View Bible Camp for a winter weekend retreat Jan. 30-February 1. Consequently the Sunday School teen class was few and joined the adult class on Sunday Feb. 1. Also missing for the day were the operators for audio/visual tech duties.

Jamie Grenier  read the opening announcements. Katie DeRoo led the singing from the piano using selections from the Hymn Book.

The songs were: “The Love of God”, “Blessed Assurance”,“Jesus Paid It All”, “Abide With Me” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”.

Rejean Picard was usher. Prayer Focus was led by Clayton Kimber. The new Mission of the month is for Herbert and Shandi Ives at Dauphin Bible Camp. Abe Klassen was guest speaker with Pastor Jeff Peacock being away with the Youth Retreat.

One of the great Themes of the Bible is the “Steadfast Love of God”. Abe noted several examples in the Bible where God’s faithfulness is praised. In Genesis 32:9-12 Jacob, son of Isaac and grandson of Abraham (Patriarchs of the Jewish people) is anticipating

a battle as he returned to his home area where his brother Esau still lives.

In a nighttime wrestling match Jacob finally surrenders to God’s care and direction. The anticipated battle never materializes and the estranged brothers are reconciled.

Another example in Exodus 34 finds the people of Israel (Jacob’s new name) a few centuries later turning away from faith in God and facing the threat of abandonment. Moses returns to Mount Sinai for a second writing of the commandments on tablets of stone. He receives from God reassurance of the covenant previously given.

A third lesson was Hosea 6 with teaching about keeping covenant with God. Though one may have doubts and struggles, God is faithful. The many Psalms written by King David reveal many difficulties and shortcomings, yet he often resolves the laments with “ The steadfast Love of the Lord endures forever”.

In understanding the character of God, mercy extended in time of need is a quality sometimes overlooked.

A concluding question “How is God calling the church to show His steadfast love to the world today?” The potential is present for transformed lives to the glory of God.
