Somerset Bible Chapel
Sunday February 22 was bright and sunny, but cold. The day included the annual winter Family Event. The Sunday noon potluck moved to the Somerset Community Hall.
The Afternoon activity included the bouncy houses which delight the many children in the congregation. Some took advantage of the public skating time at the Arena aound the corner from the hall.
The Morning worship service led off with Rachel Picard giving the announcements. Pastor Jeff Peacock was worship leader, beginning with prayer. Byron Timmerman served as usher. Prayer Focus was led by Clayton Kimber. Rachel Picard read the Scripture lesson from Matthew 6: 5-15.
The songs used included: “Here I Am to Worship”, “Offering”, “My All in All”, “The Wonderful Cross”, “It Is Well With My Soul”, “There Is A Redeemer” with the Doxology at the closing.
Pastor Jeff spoke on “Jesus said ‘Pray like this’ ”. Matthew gives this account as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus gives instructions on the audience for prayer, the attitude in prayer, goals in prayer and results to be expected.
Prayer is to be to God the Father, with reverence and humility. Jesus is the instructor, the intercessor. The Holy Spirit gives support, guidance and strength.
The Lord’s Prayer is proably the most well known and most often memorized and recited portion of the Bible. It begins with reverence to God’s sovreignty and authority, both for present reality and future hope. The prayer is an act of submission to the will of God.
The second part of the prayer covers daily needs: all types of nourishment, forgiveness, guidance and awareness of God’s presence. The closing verse of the text calls on God’s people to be forgiving to others.
Youth group continues to meet Wednesday evenings at the church.
The February items for the Operation Christmas Child collection is work supplies (tool kits, sewing kits, etc.).
