News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb. 22, 2024

Somerset Bible Chapel

Each Sunday morning before the music team takes the lead for congregational singing, one of the council members gives the announcements for the week. On Feb. 18th, Erik Picard, trustee on council, was the one.

The music team of guitar and piano led off with “Joyful, Joyful” in a partner song version, opening prayer, “This Is the Day”, “Bless the Lord, O my Soul” and “The River”.

Byron Timmerman served as usher. Ernest Unrau played a piano medley including “Good News” and “The Love of God”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock was on for Prayer Focus and it was one of those Sundays where  the leader was also the family of the week. Daughters Michayla and Rebekah were home for their mid-term break from Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, SK. The Winnipeg Campus of Millar College is the February Mission of the month.

The songs “Jesus Messiah” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” led to the sermon.

Pastor Jeff read Romans !:13-17 as the Bible lesson. In this portion, the author, the Apostle Paul expresses his desire to visit the church in Rome. He has long been prevented from doing so. He explains why he wants to visit - he wants to offer them some spiritual gift, to share mutual encouragement  and to gain a harvest of converted souls. Paul speaks of his obligation (duty) and passion to preach in their midst.

Paul speaks of the Power of God to bring salvation to all who believe.

The closing song was “Amazing Grace” and Pastor Jeff gave the benediction.

Each year the church collects for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry that distributes shoebox sized gift boxes to needy children in various countries. This year the plan is collect a category for the boxes each month. January was small toys, February is for hats, scarfs, gloves and packable shoes.
