News from Isabel Acheson for issue of April 25, 2024

Somerset Bible Chapel

Much activity was evident around the church Saturday morning April 20 as seven were present for the Men’s Breakfast meeting. The annual Spring Work (Cleaning) Day followed. Other families were represented as other helpers arrived.

Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna were weekend visitors to Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, SK for grad activities as their daughters Michayla and Rebekah have completed their first year of studies there.

Sunday morning April 21 the worship service opened with Rachel Picard presenting the announcements, including advance notice of a church family camping event in July.

The music team was Emery and Katie DeRoo. They opened with “Come, Now is the Time to Worship” and “The Love of God”.

Erik Picard served as usher for the collection. “Be Thou My Vision”, “Jesus Paid It All” and “What He’s Done” continued the music choices.

Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus. The pulpit supply for the day was Kevin Friesen, a member of the elders board. His sermon “Living Hope” was drawn from 1 Peter 1:3-9.

The Apostle Peter is the author of two small epistles in the New Testament. This first letter is an encouragement to those who are suffering for their commitment to follow the way of Christ. Peter himself knows he is close to losing his life for the cause of Christ as well.

Kevin separated the text into Past, Future and Present aspects of Hope. From the Past, the resurrection of Jesus provides the way to be “born again” John 3:1-7.

Future Hope is described as imperishable, undefiled, unfading, and in heaven prepared by God for all who come to Him. This gives Hope for the Present time so as to enable the Christian to look beyond the present sufferings to the joy that is the outcome of faith. The message closed with prayer.

The closing hymn was “Yet not I, but through Christ in me” and the closing blessing was 1 Peter 1:8-9.
