News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 25, 2026
Somerset Bible Chapel
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and grandfathers reading this. Sunday June 21 brought many visitors to the congregation. Notable anniversaries - a 40th celebration Saturday for Rejean and Carol Picard, and the 25th for Pastor Jeff and Alanna Peacock earlier in the week, plus Somerset Grad occuring the next day attracted family from away.
Erik Picard opened the worship hour with announcements. Pastor Jeff led the music team of Alanna and Rebekah on vocals and Andrew first time on drums. James Friesen was usher. Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus. Michelle Friesen read 1 Peter 1:13-21.
The elders Kevin Friesen, Rick Ross and Clayton Kimber took to the Platform to make a presentation to Jeff and Alanna for their anniversary. Rick had the privilege of giving a prayer of blessing for them.
Singing opened with “Lord, I Lift your Name” and “Bless the Lord (10,000 Reasons)” with the next set being “It is Well”, “How Great is our God”, “Amazing Love”, and “The Heart of Worship”.
Pastor Jeff opened the sermon time with a tribute to those who participate on stage. He also saluted the men of the church who are Dads living as godly men - with integrity, honesty, clarity, and scriptural convictions. He emphasized the importance of spending time with their kids: you are their only dad, the time goes by quickly (said as his youngest are graduating the next day). The men were reminded that they are examples to their children.
The sermon text of 1Peter 1:13-20 -Called to be Holy - reminds readers that God is sovreign therefore no one else can be. Peter is teaching the believers suffering much for their faith that God is faithful, to the extent that they can rejoice and take comfort. God is in control. Nothing can separate them from His care. All things will work together for the glory of God. (Rom 8:28, 38-39).
Peter also instructs his readers to honour God with obedience, with one’s mind prepared for action - As a runner uses starting blocks to get a better start, to run a more effective race, shaving off every hundredth of a second to win the prize.
The sermon closed with prayer and the service closed with singing the Doxology.
