News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb 20 , 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Despite the extreme cold warnings that won’t go away, a good many families showed up for Sunday School and Worship Service.

The Bible school students from the congregation have a reading week (semester break) February 14-23. Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna have their daughters home for a visit.

The worship service opened with Rejean Picard presenting the announcements. Pastor Jeff with Michayla on vocals and a visiting Bible school student at piano led the music.

Byron Timmerman was usher, Clayton Kimber led the prayer focus, and Jamie Small was the reader for the Scripture lesson from Colossians 1:15-23.

“10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord, O My Soul)”, “Because He Lives”, “Come Thou Fount”, “Only a Holy God”, “Light of the World” and the familiar Chris Tomlin piece “Here I Am to Worship” were the selections for congregational singing.

The Prayer Focus includes the church prayer family of the week and the mission of the month. Also included this Sunday were those affected by the school bus accident in the neighbourhood a few days before. The congregation includes First Responders and School Bus drivers, as well as coaches and classmates of some of the children involved.

Pastor Jeff introduced Colossians 1 as his all time favourite passage to preach on. His enthusiasm showed! The Apostle Paul gives his greetings to the believers at Colossae (in what is now the modern part of Turkey). Paul describes his Thanksgivings and Prayers for them. He then bursts forth with Praise for many attributes of God.

He speaks of Jesus as the exact representation of Almighty God, of his pre-eminence over all creation, his power, authority, and Glory. He is the head of his body, the Church. He demonstrates the fullness of God in reconciling all things that were once alienated from God.

Paul encourages the believers to be holy, blameless, above reproach, to be stable and steadfast in the faith, full of the hope that is in the gospel (good news).

The sermon closed with prayer and the singing of the Doxology.

A family activity day is planned for Sunday afternoon March 2 in the Somerset Community Hall after lunch.

The Christian Education Committee is seeking someone to serve as Director for the week of Day Camp in July. Rachel Picard at 204-245-0491 has the details.
