News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Dec. 18, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Sunday Dec. 14th, Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna led the worship service with announcements, songs and prayers. Byron Timmerman served as usher and Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus.

Andrea Penner did the Advent reading for the 3rd candle, The Shepherd’s candle, for Joy. Her eldest daughter was the candlelighter.

Pastor Jeff read the Scripture lesson from Isaiah 9:1-7. The Prophet Isaiah reflects on the former times of great gloom and speaks of a time coming when there will be “no gloom”.

The first verse leads into a frequently read Christmas season passage describing the Messiah to come. A great light to those in deep darkness. A joy like that of a bountiful harvest that can be shared with the extended family.

There will be no need of battle garments (Boots, blood stained clothing) in the coming time of Peace.  v. 6 “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The sermon closed with prayer and the Doxology.

Lots of Grandparents were among the visitors Sunday evening for the annual Christmas Variety Program. Sunday School students and a few adults participated in a play of 4 scenes interspersed with Christmas Carols. Pastor Jeff had some closing comments and prayer before the refreshments that followed.

The play “A Christmas to Believe In” was organized by Rebekah Peacock. Kevin Friesen gave a welcome and opening prayer. Rachel Picard led the carol singing with Jamie Small at the piano. The youngest class (preschool to Kindergarten) sang “Away in a Manger” to lead off the carol singing.

Alanna and Caleb Peacock served as narrators for the play as the various scenarios of the Christmas story were enacted by angels, shepherds, sheep, Joseph and Mary, her cousin Elizabeth (with child in her advanced years), Herod and his guard, the wise men from the East.

To all our readers we extend Christmas Greetings for Joy and Peace.

There will be a Christmas Day worship service at 10:30 a.m. There will be no Sunday School classes Dec. 28 and Jan. 4.
