News from Isabel Acheson for issue of April 30, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

The worship service at SBC for Sunday April 26 opened with Ernest Unrau giving the announcements. James Friesen was usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus. Erik Picard read the Scripture from 2 Corinthians 11:18-30.

The music team were Kevin and Michelle Friesen. The music list included “This is Amazing Grace”, “God So Loved”, “Bless The Lord, O My Soul”(10,000 Reasons), “ His Mercy Is More”, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, “Yet Not I, but Through Christ in Me” and “Build My Life” for the closing.

Pastor Jeff Peacock and Alanna attended AGC Conference the previous weekend in Canmore, AB. The keynote speaker had focused on 2 Corinthians 10-12, same as the current preaching series. Alanna is beginning a term on the Canada West Council. They have been attending Conferences for about 25 years and once again enjoyed the fellowship with longtime friends and meeting others in the assembly.

The sermon “Boasting” reflected both the attitudes of the false teachers that were misleading some of the church in Corinth (and elsewhere), and Paul’s list of ways that he could boast. Much of the chapter is heavy with sarcasm.

Paul’s defense of his ministry included no financial burden to them, his love and care for them, his frustrations at the false teachers infiltrating the group, disguised as angels of light (super apostles).

His own credentials included both his personal background and his sufferings for the sake of the gospel: beatings, stoning, shipwrecks, dangers from everyone, everywhere. By boasting in such a state of weakness and brokenness, any accomplishment was because of God’s enabling power within.

“Who is the Hero?” We make much of the one who sustains us in our weakness and in whatever sufferings come upon us. 2 Cor. 10:17 Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.

The youth group meets Wednesday evenings 7:30-9:30 at the church. The May 3 Sunday will include a “Bring a Bag Lunch” day and the quarterly business meeting. Mother’s Day May 10 will include a Baptism service and a Mother’s Day luncheon at the church.

Announcements also included information about the National “March for Life” event being held in Winkler Thursday May 14 at noon.
