Somerset Bible Chapel
The Annual Western Canada conference for Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC) took place last weekend in Canmore AB. The congregation there is enjoying a new church building. Pastor Jeff and Alanna Peacock attended from the Somerset Bible Chapel congregation.
The worship service at SBC for Sunday April 19 opened with Rejean Picard giving the announcements. ABe Klassen was usher, Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus. Clayton Kimber read the Scripture from Hebrews 12:1-3.
The music team were Emery and Katie DeRoo. The music list included “Everlasting God”, “You are God Alone”, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today”, “Be Thou My Vision”, “What He’s Done” and “Your Will Be Done” for the closing.
Guest Speaker for the day was Kevin Friesen. “Running the Race Through Pain, Suffering and Sacrifice” was the title of his sermon. Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:20-27 sets out the extent of pain and suffering in his ministry. Kevin brought out the stories of 4 others in recent decades that have suffered imprisonment and other difficulties in their Christian service.
The Nature of Sacrifice may be comfort, physical well-being, reputation. Living the Christian life may involve sacrifice, and calls for daily surrender. Matthew 16:21-24 speaks of taking up one’s cross.
The initial reading in Hebrews 12 is a call to endurance. The Christian life is not a sprint but a marathon. Any hindrance needs to be set aside.
The successful runner focuses on what matters. The person living the Christian life is focused on Jesus, the Pioneer and perfecter of One’s Faith. He who endured severe physical agony, as well as the spiritual burden (mental and emotional ) of the weight of sin, indured for the Joy set before Him, to Glorify the Father, to Complete the mission he had, and for the salvation of his people. Heb. 12:4-6 speak of how to endure.
The message closed with prayer and Kevin gave the benediction after the closing song.
Saturday April 18 was the annual Spring Cleaning Day at the church building. Thanks to all those who participate.
