News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept. 18, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

The worship service for Sunday September 14th had some changes in format. The scheduled speaker was unavailable.

Jamie Grenier looked after the opening announcements. Kevin Friesen with guitar and Jamie Small at piano were the music team. Byron Timmerman was usher and Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus. Jamie Small read the Bible lesson from Matthew 6:5-15.

The songs were “This is Amazing Grace”, “For God so Loved”, “God of Wonders”, “The Wonder of it All”, “More Precious Than Silver”, “Living Hope” and, for the closing, “Lord, I Need You”. For the offertory Jamie S. sang “Bless God”.

Kevin F., seated on a stool at a music stand, led an overview discussion on The Lord’s Prayer. Each of 7 components were presented and discussed. Different ones of the congregation gave prayers as each was presented.

The Lord’s Prayer is in the middle of the “Sermon on the Mount” in Matthew 5-7. It is a model of corporate prayer.

The opening phrases focus on God Himself: relationship (Our Father), His Position (Kingdom), His Sovereignty (His Will be done).

The following phrases focus on Mankind’s needs: daily bread (physical necessities), forgiveness (relationships with other people) keeping in mind God’s mercy, protection (guidance and strength to resist temptation.)

The Prayer closes with a closing worship sentence: “For yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and ever. Amen”.

Several points came out in discussion: Christians need to protect and respect the name of God. Reminders are good. Confession and forgiveness are not just individual but need to include our community, our nation, our world. The need to be aware of God’s plan so that we may live within it. Some noted the need to be active in our world; to be bold to speak up when something is not right, to care for those around us, to treat others with respect.

Youth group activities will resume Wed. Sept. 24th 7:30 p.m at the church. Bri Small has details on a Facebook post to the Somerset Bible Chapel page.
