Somerset Bible Chapel
For Sunday September 28, Ernie Unrau read the announcements. Rejean Picard was usher, Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus, Lorna Unrau read Colossians 3:1-17 as the Bible lesson.
Katie DeRoo flew solo as the music team for the day. The Call to Worship was Ps. 95:1-7. The songs were “Come, Now Is The Time to Worship”, “Everlasting God”, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “His Mercy Is More”, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, and, for the closing, “Your Will Be Done” very fitting for going out into the world of every day.
Speaker for the day was Abe Klassen from the congregation. “Threads running through the Bible” could be a title for Abe’s sermon. Abe and Mallory and the children have been doing a “Read through the Bible” beginning to end, and are about to start over. Abe notes that learning compounds over time, like interest on an investment. Each time through, different things are noted and how it all fits together.
Three themes were illustrated: Rebellion, Corruption and Separation from God.
In the book of Genesis notable rebellions are those of Satan and the angels known as Sons of God as well as the sin of Adam, the first man, in the Garden of Eden.
Rebellion against God’s majesty and authority bring about Corruption. Again, in Genesis, extreme corruption is dealt with by a worldwide flood which left only 8 people to repopulate the world. (Noah and his wife, their 3 sons and their wives).
Many times in the Old Testament, the disobedience of the nations brought about God’s severe punishment. The tower of Babel - confusion of languages. Being made subject to other nations. Abe read Ps 68:1-36 which speaks of God taking revenge on those who harm His people.
Mankind was created to enjoy all of creation, to do good, to care for it according to God’s command. Jesus came to redeem from slavery to sin, to reconcile people to God, to give a new heart, a new birth, and a home in heaven.
Youth Group kick-off last Wednesday began a new season of weekly programs for teens.
