News from Isabel Acheson for issue of May 29, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

The Worship service for Sunday May 18, was led by Kevin Friesen with Jamie Small at piano. Erik Picard read the announcements, Rejean Picard was the usher and Isabel A.  read the Scripture lesson before the sermon. Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus.

The song selections included “Hosanna (Praise is Rising)”, “The Last Word”, “How Great Thou Art”, “How Great Is Our God”, “It Is Well With My Soul” and the closing song “I Stand in Awe”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock, in his sermon on 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 - Treasures in Jars of Clay, explained the metaphor in terms of faithful Christians being lowly, common, expendable and replaceable in the sense that a clay pots is cheap, breakable and replaceable.

In chapter 4, Paul the author is encouraging the Christians to not lose heart in their Ministry of Light to their world. This ministry becomes the treasure. From the moment one is “saved”, the command is to go, make disciples, baptize and teach. (Matt. 28:18-20). Jesus speaks this, having all authority, giving the enabling power, and everlasting presence with believers.

In 2 Cor. 4:8-10, Paul speaks of the contrasts that come out of his own weaknesses. “Afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;…”. He speaks of how death is always at work, so that the power of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, may be manifested (made apparent) in the lives of His servants.

The sermon closed with prayer. The benediction from Ephesians 3 reminds listeners that God is able to do far more than we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.

The Christian Education Committee met recently and the announcements reflected preparations for June 15 Sunday School season wind-up, (also a Father’s Day BBQ),  July 21-23 Day Camp at Mary Jane Park for ages 10-15, and on Aug 11-14 evenings Vacation Bible School for ages 4-9.

There is also a Church Family Campout weekend set for July 4-6 at Stephenfield Park with the Sunday worship service being held at the campground.
