Mother’s Day Sunday May 14 was well celebrated. In the Sunday School hour, the adult class met for a shortened session. Most of the children’s classes helped in the lower hall to set up for a Tea/Coffee/Dessert event. The tables set with china tea cups were for the mothers. Beverages were served by teen boys, plates of dainties were set out and refilled as needed. Everyone else was invited to help themselves at a serving table. Thanks to Youth Co-ordinator Brianna Small and her husband Jamie for organizing.

The worship service was opened with Abe Klassen doing the announcements. Pastor Jeff Peacock and Michayla were the music team. They opened with “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” one of his mother’s favourites. “Here I Am to Worship” and “How Deep the Father’s Love”, the offering, “Lord, I Need You” and “Here Is Love” were interspersed with prayers.

Ernie Unrau led the Prayer Focus with a reading of 1 John 5:13-15 about knowing God and knowing how to pray. The mission of the month is AGC (Associated Gospel Churches of Canada) executive, staff and ministries. National Conference is scheduled for end of May in Banff. It is held every 2 years and alternates between Eastern Canada and Western Canada.

Pastor Jeff took 1 John 4:7-11 as his sermon text. “How To Love Like Jesus” was the theme.

The qualities of godly love highlighted included Sacrifice, Action and Speaking Truth. Godly love is compassionate, kind, respectful and stands firm on what is right. Tolerance is not synonymous with love.

Christians are called to a battleground, not a playground. Christians are called to know God, to receive His promise of life, eternal life. Christians are called to action: to love one another.

“What does it look like for a church to stand up and let its voice be heard on issues that are challenging, emotional, deeply divisive in our culture; to do it with love and compassion and care, to speak the truth in Love?”

The sermon closed with prayer. Brianna supervised distribution of flowers to each of the mothers present. Pastor Jeff led the singing of the Doxology in closing.
