News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Mar 5, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

March 1 was a Communion Sunday and included a Meeting after the church service to discuss Day Camp for July 2026.

The announcements were given by Matt Penner. The worship team were Katie and Emery DeRoo. Byron Timmerman was usher, Clayton Kimber led Prayer Focus, Michelle Friesen read the Bible lesson from 2 Corinthians 7:1.

The songs used included: “Come Now is the Time To Worship”, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “Blessed Assurance”, “Be Thou My Vision”, “Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me” and “Lord I Need You”.

“Since we have these Promises” begins the text of the day chosen by Pastor Jeff Peacock. The beginning connector word prompted a review of the material in the later verses of the previous chapter.

The next phrase “let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit” led into a survey of the indicators of a holy life. A redeemed heart produces a redeemed life. The epistle of James in the Bible elaborates on the association between faith and works. That faith is demonstrated by the works produced in worship and in glory to God.

Holiness has two aspects: a position with God that is secure, and the ongoing day to day experience that comes out of the choice to walk with God, learning and practicing his ways. One does not drift into holiness. One author calls the work “grace driven effort”.

This letter of the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth is very encouraging. He reminds them of reasons to be thankful people.

The sermon closed with a comparison between Confession and Repentance. Confession is simply that one agrees with the charge against him with out any bearing to future behaviour. Repentence includes confession along with a commitment to future holiness. A system of accountability encourages holy living.

The Communion celebration follwed the sermon, with elders Kevin Friesen and Clayton K. acting as servers.

Youth group continues to meet Wednesday evenings at the church.

The theme for items for the Operation Christmas Child collection for March is Accesories: shoes, bracelets, hair items, bandanas, painting supplies, fishing kits, etc.
