Father’s Day, Sunday June 15, was celebrated with a Barbecue lunch after the worship service in the lower hall. An annual highlight of the day is the personalized desserts served to the fathers by the youth of the church.
Sunday School classes are now recessed for the summer months. The summer schedule will begin June 22 with a coffee fellowship at 10 a.m with the worship service at the usual time of 10:30 a.m.
The announcements were given by Ernest Unrau. Kevin Friesen led the music team with Jamie Small at piano. Jonathan Timmerman was the usher. Rick Ross both led the Prayer Focus and read the Bible lesson (2 Corinthians 5:11-21).
Kevin F. had asked some of the Dads for favourites. The selections used were “Because He Lives”, “Amazing Grace” with a less familiar tune, “Our Great Saviour”, We Fall Down (and lay our crowns)”, “Lord, I Need You”, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” with “Jesus Messiah” as the closing piece.
Pastor Jeff Peacock had spent the previous week at Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, SK in post-graduate courses in Doctrine of God and Congregational Care. Pastor Jeff likened the week as more like drinking from a water cannon, not just a fire hose!
“The Ministry of Reconciliation-Part 1” sermon on 2 Cor. 5:11-21 is a defence by the Apostle Paul of his own integrity in ministering to the Christians in Corinth. He speaks of honouring the Lord in his ministry and of his desire to persuade others to be reconciled to God unto eternal life. Paul hopes that people will be convinced and convicted by his consistent witness.
Pastor Jeff emphasized the importance of being part of a church fellowship on a long term basis: get to know your fellow worshipers and have a sense of their integrity. If need be, a defence can be made in the face of false accusations. If we, the people, are authentic and led by the Holy Spirit, we make it tough for the enemy to get a foothold.
In a very individualistic culture, the Bible teaches that we live for God, and for the good of one another in the fellowship and in our communities. The sermon closed with prayer. The Benediction was 2 Cor. 13:11-14.
