News from Isabel Acheson for issue of July 9, 2026
Somerset Bible Chapel
The annual church family camp-out weekend took place July 3-5 at Stephenfield Provincial Park. Four families took in the full weekend. Others visited part days. The worship service Sunday morning and the lunch that followed was attended by at least 17 families/households.
With lawn chairs and picnic blankets, in the shade areas near a picnic shelter, the congregation enjoyed opening singing led by Emery and Katie DeRoo.
The musical items were on a song sheet. They included “This is Amazing Grace”, “In Christ Alone”, “My Jesus I Love Thee”, "Jesus Strong and Kind” and “Be Still and Know”.
Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. The July mission of the month is Day Camp. Rebekah Peacock and Rachel Picard are providing leadership. Campers are registered, volunteer leaders are lined up (mostly). The speaker is set. The camp site itself will be Mary Jane Park after a hiatus of several years. July 20-23 are the dates with the windup the final late afternoon.
The Bible lesson was from Hebrews 10:19-25 “The Full Assurance of Faith” read by Isabel A.
“Therefore” is the beginning of the reading which led to a context review: Hebrews is written to the Jews converted to Christ who were scattered abroad. The theme is that Jesus is “better than …”. A dirt bike racing illustration from the day before led to the lesson(s) being developed.
Jesus brought a new element to worship. Anyone can approach God directly. Not on their own merit, but through the righteousness of Christ. The old Hebrew laws are being replaced by a new covenant.
God has also provided the encouragemnt and fellowship of the company of believers as they meet together. Pastor Jeff quoted the lyrics of a newer song “He Will Hold Me Fast”. Christians are to “Stir one another up” with encouragement, guidance, love and good works.
The sermon closed with a practical application of speaking words of encouragement to others present. Highlights included commendation of the families who “love on” their children, the mothers who manage to come to church every Sunday with their littles.
Sunday July 12, the summer schedule will continue at the church with a coffee time at 10 a.m. and the 10:30 worship service following.
