Somerset Bible Chapel 

The worship service for Sunday June 28th opened with Rejean Picard giving the announcements. Kevin and Michelle Friesen were the music team and Kevin also led the Prayer Focus. Byron Timmerman was usher. Rachel PIcard read the Scripture lesson from 1 Peter 1:22-25. 

The chosen music followed a theme of Holiness.  “Open the Eyes of my Heart”, “God So Loved” and “Love Lifted Me”. For the offertory MIchelle led in a new song “Holy Forever” with the congregation joining in after the first verse. “Yes, I Will”,  “Build My Life” and the closing “You Are My King (Amazing Love)” completed the series. 

Pastor Jeff Peacock opened his sermon “Assumptions: Reasonable? or Not?” with a reminder that assumptions that we can trust can be found in Holy Scripture. The Apostle Peter wrote his letter to the scattered Christians in the time of the Roman emperor Nero. He is encouraging them to remain faithful and to be devoted to holy living.

A key mark of holiness is to show brotherly love to the other believers. This love is sincere, from a pure heart, drawn from the Word of God. The negative of this choice of action is holding grudges, grumpiness, or showing a fake love. 

To love well may not be cheap or easy, but holds fast, intensely, being dependable. In short, learning to “Love Like Jesus”. Pastor Jeff suggested ways this can happen in the home and family, in the church and in life in general with reference to Ephesians 5. He reminded listeners that believers are models for the children, the couples in the church, and other people around us. 

The sermon closed with prayer and the service closed with the benediction from Ephesians 3:14-19. 

A good attendance was on hand Father’s Day for the luncheon after the worship service. A ladies event was held at the church Tuesday evening the 23rd, led by Katie DeRoo with appetizers and desserts. The ladies did a trial run of a potential craft for Day Camp. 

The service Sunday July 5 at the Stephenfield Provincial Park Bay 5 will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Pot Luck Luncheon. The following Sunday July 12, the summer schedule will continue with a coffee time at 10 a.m. and the 10:30 worship service following.
