Somerset Bible Chapel 

After having an outdoor service with the church family camp out July 5, the congregation was back to the home sanctuary for Sunday July 12. The Worship Service included the celebration of Communion. 

The worship leader was Kevin Friesen with Michelle supporting with vocals. Abe Klassen was usher. Erik Picard led the Prayer Focus. Clayton Kimber assisted with serving and also read the Bible lesson from Hebrews 12:1-3. 

The musical selections included “Come Thou Fount”, “Power in the Blood”, What a Mighty God we Serve”, “I Believe in Jesus”, “Living Hope” and “Holy Forever” with “How Great Is Our God” for the closing. 

Pastor Jeff Peacock used the current series from Hebrews to introduce the Communion observance. Then, in the sermon time, he taught another “Therefore” and “since” section of the New Testament book of Hebrews. Chapter 11 gives a catalogue of “Faith’s Hall of Fame” ending with a list of hardships endured by some of the faithful. 

Heb. 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Many of the faithful listed never saw the fulfillment brought about by the life and death of Jesus in human form as the final sacrifice of the Levitical system. 

Heb. 12:1 refers to the previous faithful followers as “a cloud of witnesses” in an analogy of the spectators watching a race. As each runner prepares to run the race set before him, he lays aside every unnecessary weight (even though it might be something good in and of itself) and also escapes any evil entanglement that might trip him up and hinder his progress. 

An essential element for the athlete is direction, to be focused on the finish line, the prize. The Christian believer is called to focus on Christ, the author and finisher (perfector) of faith. The runner is called to run with endurance, to push through the agony that develops in the effort to win.  

With reference to Homiletical classes, and “things I never expected to say to a church”, Pastor Jeff summed up the message “Follow the GOAT” (Greatest of all Time)”…so that you do not grow weary and lose heart.”

 Summer schedule continues with coffee at 10 a.m. and the worship service at 10:30 each Sunday morning.
