News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb 19, 2026
Somerset Bible Chapel
Sunday February 15 the church day included the afternoon memorial service for Diana Howarth. Both Glenn and Diana were active in the congregation for many years.
The Morning worship service led off with Ernest Unrau reading the announcements. Erik Picard was usher. Prayer Focus was led by Kevin Friesen. Lorna Unrau read the Scripture lesson from Romans 1:18-32. The music team was Kevin and Michelle Friesen.
Some of the missionary support from the church goes to Herbert and Shandi Ives serving with Dauphin Bible Camp (One Hope Canada). For the past year Herbert’s role has been Barn Manager. The equine ministry of the camp has become a year round activity. Currently there are about 45 horses to care for. He oversees the maintenance of the horse facilities, also snow clearing and lawns on site.
Shandi shared about camp impact on special needs campers. Michayla and Caleb Peacock had served at the camp last summer and the children had bonded well with them. The Ives family live off site and are home schooling.
Both Kevin Friesen and Pastor Jeff Peacock led off their parts with reminiscences of Diana Howarth: her participation in Day Camps bringing drinks and snacks to end the afternoons, her support in other ways being the neighbour across the road from camp.
She served years as church secretary and kept the books in good order until handed over to the next one. She cared for the flower beds when her husband Glenn was church trustee.
The music was entirely Diana Howarth favourites: “The Solid Rock”, “Come Thou Fount”, “His Mercy is More”, “How Great Thou Art”, “How Great Is our God” and “The River”.
Pastor Jeff took a big picture look at the text “God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness”. Source: God himself, just, righteous, holy; coming from heaven, a place of authority. Target: against All the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. Consequence: punishment, maybe not right away, but in due time. Sometimes sin seems to prosper.
The Implications of God’s “giving them up” show a progression (regression?) in the text. First there is ignorance of God, then idolatry (false gods). Dishonourable passions become sexual sin and unnatural sin. Several verses list all kinds of debauchery. The closing verse ends the list with those who approve sinful practices. God can allow the consequences of sin to run full course.
In the culture of such an environment, God calls Christians to be salt and light where they are; to be ministers of reconciliation.
