News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb 12, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

The feature of the day was a farewell for Jamie and Brianna Small and family who are moving to Morden to be closer to his work. A Mexican themed pot luck luncheon was held. Several people present offered tributes. The gift that was presented that included signatures from the youth group.

Erik Picard read the announcements. Abe Klassen was usher. Prayer Focus was led by Pastor Jeff Peacock. Clayton Kimber read the Scripture lesson from Romans 1:18-23. The music team was Kevin Friesen with Brianna and Jamie Small.

The song sets opened with “For God So Loved”, “Be Show My Vision” and “What He’s Done”. For the second set they used two songs recently introduced to the congregation: “Build My Life” (first line “Worthy of every song”) and “Christ Be Magnified” (first line “Were creation suddenly articulate”).

Pastor Jeff, in his opening comments, confessed to reffing several basketball games Friday and Saturday - and feeling some effects! His sermon theme followed the heading for the lesson of the day “God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness”.

For context Pastor Jeff gave a quick overview of the previous messages from Romans 1. At the point of verse 18, Paul the apostle and writer of the letter launches into a dissertation on the essentials of Christianity that takes up the next 10 chapters. The need of a Saviour is essential for the rest of the story to make sense.

A good definition of the Wrath of God is the settled, determined response of a righteous God against sin. Anger can be an impulsive outburst.

In Genesis 6, God’s patience with mankind and their sinning ways runs out and the destruction of all creation seems imminent. One righteous man, Noah and his family are chosen to preserve a remnant for a new beginning to populate the earth. In the patience of God, the preparations took about 100 years before the Ark was filled and the rains came.

Isaiah 53:1-12 portrays the coming of the Messiah to bear the punishment for sin for anyone who believes in God. The reading served to begin Communion service.

Congratulations to the Picards on the birth of a son Saturday Feb. 7, 2026 to Patrick and Jana Picard of Brandon, a grandson for Rejean and Carolyn Picard.
