Somerset Bible Chapel
The annual Good Friday breakfast was prepared and served by the Elders and their wives. There were 16 households represented in those present. Pastor Jeff Peacock led an informal worship service as people remained around the tables. Two songs “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Wonderful Cross” were followed by readings and commentary on Exodus 12:1-15, Psalm 22 and Luke 23:32-49.
Edna Friesen (nee Wiebe) passed away Thursday, April 17 after 13 weeks in BTHC in Palliative Care due to cancer. Edna and husband James were part of the group that began Somerset Bible Chapel in the 1970’s. They have given leadership in every aspect of the church over the years since.
Easter Sunday April 20, Rejean Picard gave a long list of announcements.
Pastor Jeff Peacock was music leader, Abe Klassen was usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus and Rachel Picard did the scripture lesson from 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. Rick Ross and Kevin Friesen served communion elements.
The music selections opened with “Because He Lives” and “In Christ Alone”, then “Yet Not I but Christ through Me”, “Jesus Messiah” and “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”.
Pastor Jeff Peacock opened his sermon time with a tribute to the Friesen family and the example they set in recent months with Edna in palliative care. A nurse said “ Most people write their own journey.” Their witness, testimony and faith blessed many.
The most extensive treatment of the subject of “Resurrection” in the Bible comes in 1 Cor. 15. The apostle Paul addresses the whole gospel in the early verses: Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the dead, according to the scriptures.
He offers strong evidence by listing the many people who saw the risen Christ. These are people that were still living that the Corinthians could have questioned.
Paul makes the case that the resurrection is essential to faith in Christ, otherwise hope in eternal life through Christ is worthless and Christians are most to be pitied. Alternative views of resurrection fall apart due to the Historical Jesus, the historical record of the early church, and through Logic, Reason and Facts.
Communion was celebrated with a reading of Luke 22:14ff in which Jesus, in the last supper with his disciples before crucifixion, transformed the traditional Passover meal into an ordinance to be followed by Christians to remember his death until He returns.
