Good Friday was celebrated at the church with a breakfast at 9 am prepared and served by church council. After the meal, Kevin Friesen with guitar and Parker Friesen with box drum led the singing of “Last Word”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Messiah”.
Pastor Jeff Peacock opened his meditation with the communion celebration. His remarks focused on Jesus’ last words from the cross before He died, as related in John 19:14-30 and other passages.
Easter Sunday morning, after regular Sunday School classes, the worship service began with Jamie Grenier doing announcements. Kevin Friesen led the music team of 5 plus the sound and visuals crew. They opened with “This is Amazing Grace” and prayer. A couple songs that are also used at Day Camp also fit the Easter theme: “My Redeemer Lives” and “Our God Reigns”.
Al Dyck was the usher. The instrumental during the collection was the intro for “Because He Lives”. The set continued with “In Christ Alone” and “Living Hope”. The Prayer Focus followed.
Pastor Jeff read Acts 4:1-12 - the narrative of the disciples Peter and John making an appearance before the Jerusalem religious council a few days after Pentecost (Acts 2).
The promises made by Jesus in Acts 1:7-8 are beginning to be fulfilled. Peter and John have been preaching about the teachings of Jesus and of His resurrection from the dead.
Pastor Jeff’s sermon noted that Jesus is unique, exclusive and pre-eminent. Lessons from John 14:1-6, Colossians 1:15-19, and Revelation 19:11-16 supported these characteristics.
The closing hymn was “Cornerstone” and the final reading was from Ezekiel 36:24-27.
Youth Group activities were to be split this week with the guys going bowling while the girls have a meeting at the church. The Girls bowling night is set for late May. Homework Club for Grades 6 to 12 resumes Monday the 17th.
