News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Nov. 6, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

November Sundays could be interesting. Nov. 2nd, the first one arrived with wind warnings for all our congregants communities. Ernie Unrau presented the announcements.

Kevin Friesen with guitar was worship leader with Jamie Small assisting at piano. They are supported by Kevin Larson at the video controls and Ernie U. at the sound controls.

The usher was Matthew Penner, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus, Rick Ross was the Scripture reader (2 Corinthians 6:1-10).

Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Communion celebration with a reading from John 6:48-58 - one of the seven “I Am” declarations of Jesus. This teaching was given before the institution of the Lord’s Supper. It relates the spiritual nourishment available through God’s Word, the relationship with Jesus Christ, and the work of the Holy Spirit using a picture of the physical nourishment of bread and drink.

Hymns for the day included “God so Loved (first line, Come all you weary)”, “His Mercy is More”, “Count Your Blessings”, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” during communion serving, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, and for the closing “Lord, Prepare Me”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock prefaced the sermon with thanks for the gift certificates given to mark Pastor Appreciation Month. He also thanked elders, council, and the congregation for much of the week off to spend with his parents in Ottawa.

“How are you receiving the Grace of God?” came from a letter of the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. As he encouraged them in the work of sharing the faith, as co-labourers with him, he taught them about the seasons of challenge that arise in making Christ known to a world that naturally wants its own way.

Paul urges the readers of his letter to be people of integrity with purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit and other qualities. Pastor Jeff noted that our current society is rapidly trending to the very things that Paul was warning against.

In parts of the world it is very dangerous to preach and teach the Word of God as found in the Bible. That could soon include Canada. As Paul warned “Now is the Day of Salvation”; opportunity may not be available in the future.
