News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Jan 29, 2026

Somerset Bible Chapel

Despite cold weather alerts, most of the Sunday Jan. 25th events happened as planned: Sunday School classes, church service, lunch and congregational annual meeting.

Erik Picard read the opening announcements. The music team was Jamie and Brianna Small with Kevin Friesen.

The music selections were hymn book choices: “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Jesus Paid It All”, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, “Be Thou My Vision”, “It is Well With My Soul”, “I Surrender All” and “My Chains are Gone/Amazing Grace”.

Abe Klassen had multiple duties: clearing the snow from ramp and steps, adult class SS teacher and usher. Prayer Focus was led by Clayton Kimber. Scripture reader was Isabel A. (Romans 1:16-17).

Pastor Jeff Peacock began his talk with thanks to all the families who are donating supplies for the youth group retreat weekend.

The sermon “I am Not Ashamed” gave an overview of the context. The apostle  Paul is writing to a church community he had not yet visited. He is thankful for their faithfulness, expresses his desire to visit them, to encourage them and to preach the gospel of Christ to anyone that would listen.

Paul explains why he is eager to preach despite significant risk to his life. Prior to this time, in a letter to the church in Corinth, he has listed his earlier hardships in 2 Corinthians 11:23-29.

The question arises: Do we as Christians today have that kind of courage. To proclaim Good News implies that there is a predicament to be dealt with. For people to understand their need for a Saviour, they need to be aware of the Threat of Eternal Punishment. Our calling is to be unashamed of the Gospel.

Paul speaks of the Power of God (the Greek word is the root of dynamite in English). Pastor Jeff concluded with King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon as an example of someone who tried to set himself up as a god. Those he tried to punish for refusing his demand for worship were delivered by the Power of God. (Daniel 3:1-30)

The Youth Group meets Wednesdays at the church at 7:30-9:30p.m.
