News from Isabel Acheson for issue of April 20, 2023
Somerset Bible Chapel
For April 16, the first Sunday after Easter, the Sunday School hour and the Worship service were followed by a “Bring Your Own” lunch and the spring congregational meeting.
The worship service opened with Announcements, led by Abe Klassen. The music team were Rejean and Carol Picard. Opening with prayer, they led off with “I Lift Your Name”, “You Are My All in All” and “I Exalt Thee”.
Erik Picard served as usher, with the piano solo “Oh, How I Love Jesus” during the collection. Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. The mission of the month is Millar College of the Bible, Winnipeg campus. At this time of year, the board of Directors have a number of decisions to make in preparation for coming classes and season.
Rejean noted that the volunteers that showed up for the cleaning day after Men’s Breakfast on Saturday had done quite a bit of work. The song set included “Christ is Mine Forevermore” and a medley of “What a Friend”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”.
Pastor Jeff completed his sermon series on the five Solas of the Reformation with a message “The Glory of God”. The five solas state that Christians are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone.
Beginning with Isaiah 42:1-9, a prophetic song about Messiah, Pastor Jeff moved through other Scriptures in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Peter 4:8-12 and 2 Peter 3:14-18. At every point in the revelation of God to mankind, the glory goes to God. Through the Word of God (The Bible) and with the gift of the Holy Spirit within, God enables Christian believers to be transformed, sanctified in their way of life to reflect the person of Jesus Christ to their world of influence. A closing reading from Romans 8 highlighted many ways that God works.
The congregational meeting was chaired by Erik Picard. Matters of note would include the acceptance of two new members. The Christian Education report announced Day Camp for July 17-21.
Congratulations to Pastor Jeff on recognition from Basketball Manitoba on 15 years of coaching in the system.
