What a week for weather: heat warnings May 10-13, then frosty mornings by weekend!
The Worship service for May 18, May long weekend Sunday, was led by Brianna and Jamie Small with Kevin Friesen, vocals, piano and guitar respectively.
Erik Picard was the usher and Rachel Picard read the Scripture lesson before the sermon. Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus after giving a report on the National AGC Conference of May 8-10.
Associated Gospel Churches of Canada are celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2025. Conference theme - Legacy of Blessing - 100 years, was marked by Bill Allan, National President with a statement in the conference booklet. The organization was begun on 4 Basic Values: Biblical Authority, Intentional Reproduction, Strategic Partnerships and Leadership Development.
Two new churches were welcomed into the Association: a Korean congregation in Toronto, a congregation in Emo, Ontario which will be connected to the Western Canada region, and a church plant ministry in Winnipeg (River Heights) is underway.
A number of enrichment sessions were offered the delegates. The theme speaker was the pastor of Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa, Dr. Jonathan Griffiths. His sermons (highly recommended) are available on their church website.
The music team chose “I Thank God”, “Our God”, “Amazing Grace (Chains are Gone)”, “How Deep The Father’s Love For Us” and “Faithful Now” for the day.
Pastor Jeff Peacock, in his sermon on 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 - The Light of the Gospel, connected it to the closing verses of the previous chapters. In chapter 4, Paul the author is encouraging the Christians to not lose heart in their Ministry of Light to their world.
The law given to Moses by God carried a measure of God’s Glory, but the message of Light, the New Covenant created by Jesus, with transformation, righteousness, reconciliation and proclamation of the good news of eternal life in heaven, carries a much greater Glory.
Those who have no desire for the truth are blinded to the light of the gospel. Sound Bible teaching comes through those with a servant heart, speaking for God’s sake to rescue lost souls. The sermon closed with prayer.
