Somerset Bible Chapel
Sunday, April 27 was a pulpit exchange week among the AGC churches of Manitoba. Pastor Jeff Peacock was speaking in the Gladstone Christian Fellowship church while Don and Sharon McCutchin of McCreary Gospel Church visited Somerset Bible Chapel.
Jamie Grenier read the opening announcements. Next Sunday, May 4 worship service is to include parent dedications, with a baby welcome luncheon to follow. Then May 11, Mother’s Day will be celebrated with a BBQ at the lunch hour.
Kevin Friesen with Jamie and Brianna Small led the music portion of the program with Eric Picard serving as Usher. The song selections included “For God So Loved”, “Only Jesus Can”, “What Blessed Assurance”, “Offering” by Paul Baloche, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, “Micah 6:8” and the closing song was “Faithful One”.
Kevin Friesen led the Prayer Focus. The mission of the month has been the Sunday School teachers. The church is blessed with two teachers (alternate Months) for each of the 5 classes. The building addition in 2019 is getting good use with classrooms, baby room, pastor’s office, and wheelchair washroom beside a larger foyer.
The Scripture reading was done by Isabel from John 20:19-29. Pastor Dan McCutchin gave an update of McCreary Gospel Church and their getting to know the people of the area. The sermon was a “Resurrection Day” theme. Pastor Dan referred to the other gospels as from the morning to the evening he wove together a thoughtful story of sorrow, then disbelief as the followers of Jesus struggled to come to terms with the truth of Jesus being raised from the dead.
The women that visited the tomb the first day of the week, the disciples they told, the other followers that gathered with them behind locked doors, must have wondered how things fit together. They would have been sharing with one another the various teaching of Jesus in prior days of his impending death and resurrection. And the personal appearances of Jesus before His Ascension would have made them eye-witnesses.
“Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:31. The service closed with the benediction from Jude 1:24-25.
A quarterly congregational meeting was held after the worship service and lunch together.
