News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 27, 2024
Somerset Bible Chapel
The summer schedule is underway with coffee, juice and a snack at 10 am in the lower hall before the worship service at 10:30 a.m. The next outdoor service will be Sunday, July 14 at Bay 5 in Stephenfield Provincial Park at 11 a.m. in conjunction with the Church Family CampOut weekend.
The order of service for June 23 was altered due to technical difficulties. The worship hour began with Rachel Picard giving announcements, Isabel Acheson reading the Bible lesson from Galatians 5:16-26, and Pastor Jeff Peacock leading the Prayer Focus and preaching the sermon “Joy & Peace”.
James 1:2-4 describes Joy as something that can come from trials, not just happy circumstances. Joy is the discipline of the mind to find Joy, it will not always come naturally, and, we need help to find this confident and committed satisfaction that God can provide to the soul. Matthew 26:36-46 goes together with Hebrews 12:2.
Peace is not always possible although Romans 12:18 directs the Christian to do everything possible to gain peace. Ephesians 2:11-22 was read for “how to be peaceful people”, as well as selected verses from Philippians 4. The apostle Paul was writing these epistles from prison near the end of his ministry; certainly not a peace-filled situation. God’s peace guards hearts and minds.
The sermon ended with a personal story and the declaration from Isaiah 26 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
The music team was Emery and Katie DeRoo. Their song list included “Come Now is The Time to Worship”, “How Can I Keep From Singing”, “The Love of God”, “What He’s Done”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “Your Will Be Done”.
Pastor Jeff read Psalm 46 for the closing.
Some time back, the elders set up 4 different small groups for fellowship, Bible study and prayer mid-week. The group that this reporter belongs to meets weekly for much of the year. During the summer break, the group still meets monthly.
This Sunday the group gathered at the R & C Picard home with a full attendance of 14 (8 men and 6 ladies). Carol provided a “baked potato bar” while others brought salads and desserts. Ernie Unrau led the “Prophecy Perspectives” study (using prophecy to share the gospel). Several led in prayer after various items were shared.
