News from Isabel Acheson for issue of June 12, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Pentecost Sunday, June 8 was an overcast, rainy day for those attending Sunday School and church. Before the birth of the Christian Church (Acts 2), Pentecost occurred 50 days after Passover in the Jewish calendar of feast days and was the celebration of First Fruits as the harvest of the land was beginning. In the Sunday School hour in some classes this was the last lesson of the season. Sunday June 15 will be the Wind-Up Program.

The worship service began with Rejean Picard giving the announcements, Brianna Small as worship leader with dad Kevin on guitar. Jamie Small at piano provided Communion service music while elders RicK Ross and Clayton Kimber were servers. Matt Penner was usher, and Clayton gave the Scripture reading from 2 Corinthians 5:1-10.

The singing included songs old and newer: “God so Loved”, “The Rescuer”, “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”, “Christ Be Magnified” and “You Are My All in All”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock looked after the Prayer Focus, Officiated the Communion celebration and gave the sermon. The Communion meditation picked up on the adult Sunday School class discussions related to “New Covenant” prophecies and announcements.

2 Cor. 5:1-10 speaks of “This Tent”, our physical body, as a disposable, temporary dwelling for this world. Pastor Jeff Peacock, with stories of the days starting out as a camping family, had many similarities to Author Paul’s picture story. Paul, too was familiar with tents, being a tent-maker himself when he was raising his own support. A tent is not strong, not sturdy, not waterproof (or mosquitos proof), not durable.

Paul quickly goes on to speak of how we long to put on our heavenly dwelling as a covering, a home, present with the Lord. God has prepared this for us (John 14:1-6) and has given the Holy Spirit to believers as a guarantee, (a pledge that fulfillment is forthcoming).

The closing verses of the text are for encouragement. “We walk by faith, not by sight.” “We would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” “We make it our aim to please Him.” from 2 Cor. 5:6-10.

The summer schedule will begin June 22 with a coffee fellowship at 10 a.m with the worship service at the usual time of 10:30 a.m.
