News from Isabel Acheson for issue of July 10, 2025

The Church Family Camp-out Weekend at Stephenfield Park attracted a number of families for the weekend. Others joined for the the Sunday Worship Service on July 6 at the Picnic Shelter near Bay 5. Thanks to those who set up generator, PA system, etc.

The worship hour began with Jamie Grenier doing the announcements. Emery and Katie DeRoo led the singing: “This is Amazing Grace”, “Jesus Messiah”, “In Christ Alone”, “My Jesus I Love Thee” and “Jesus Strong and Kind” for the opening sets.

Erik Picard served as usher, and led the Prayer Focus. The mission of the month for July is a refugee family in Thailand from Pakistan.

Speaker Kevin Friesen, teacher of Gr. 4-6 in Sunday School, recently had a study on Nehemiah. He began with a timeline object lesson: a long tape measure on the grass, 40 ft. representing 40 centuries between Adam (creation) and Jesus, volunteers standing on the tape to represent key figures and events.

Nehemiah was a servant in the court of the King of Persia. He became a leader of returning exiles to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Nehemiah Prayed, Led, Acted, and Overcame. Nehemiah’s Prayer in chapter 1:4-9 is a model. Prayer should be the first response of godly leaders. Prepare your hearts.

Nehemiah Led - as 2:1-8 describes his interaction with the king in asking for permission to leave, for a letter of safe passage, for timber for the gates.  Have vision, courage, and trust in God to step into what He leads you to do.

Nehemiah Acted. Neh 2:17-18 the people decide to “Rise Up and Build”. Chapter 3 gets into the actual process: Nehemiah had surveyed the wall and assigned families to sections of the wall.

Nehemiah Overcame - opposition to the work. The work continued with half holding weapons of defence. When God starts moving, the enemy starts attacking. Many ways attempt to distract from the work.

What walls are you needing to rebuild? What broken places has God laid on your heart that you need to take action about? Where do you need to move on that concern? Kevin closed the sermon with prayer.

Katie read Psalm 46 before the closing song “Be Still and Know”. The final prayer led to the pot luck meal.
