News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Feb. 1, 2024

Somerset Bible Chapel

The Sunday School hour on February 4 will be a Super Sunday open session.  The youth group has Guys Night and Girls Night events set up for Friday, Feb. 2nd.

On Sunday Jan. 28 the worship service began with Erik Picard opening the announcements. The 6 person music team began with “Praise is Rising”, Prayer, then “I Thank God” and “Yes I Will”. Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. Matt Penner served as usher.

“How Great Thou Art”, the offering song from the week before “Christ Be Magnified” and “The Heart of Worship made up the next set of singing.

Pastor Jeff read Romans 1:1-7  which is the greeting the author Paul used to begin his letter to the Christians in Rome. Grace is a frequently used word usually referring to God’s grace (unmerited pleasurable favour). Related readings included Ephesians 2:1-10 and Romans 5:1-2.

As Paul teaches about faith and salvation from Sin, the penalty and power of sin, he teaches that real salvation will be shown by obedience to the Word of God.

The closing song was “Yet Not I, but Through Christ in Me” and the congregation was dismissed with a benediction.

The annual meeting of the congregation followed a bring-your-own lunch at the church.  Jamie Grenier chaired the proceedings. Agenda and annual reports had been circulated previously by email. Reports were received from secretary, treasurer, chairman, Elders, Pastor, Christian Ed. Committee and Trustee with each speaking to their submission.

Those retiring from Council include Jamie Grenier, Carol Picard and Abe Klassen with new members of council including Emery DeRoo, Jamie Small and Clayton Kimber.
